Resources for Schools and Colleges

Useful resources for Schools and Colleges

The Careers Hub uses the Gatsby Benchmarks to help track progress of careers programmes. There are 8 Benchmarks and we’ve pulled together links to useful resources for each below.

1 – A stable careers programme that is known and understood by students, parents, teachers, governors and employers.

2 – Learning from career and labour market information. Giving every student, and their parents access to information about future study options and labour market opportunities.

LMI includes roles, salaries and sectors. For more information visit: https://enterprisem3.org.uk/gatsby-benchmark-two-learning-career-and-labour-market-information

Here are a few websites with LMI you may find insightful: Surrey Board of TradeicouldLMI for all linked to Careerometer

3 – Addressing Pupil needs. Raising aspirations and challenging stereotypical thinking. Keeping systematic records.

4 – Linking curriculum learning to careers. For example, English, Maths, Science and PSHE.

Gatsby Benchmark 4 | CEC Resource Directory (careersandenterprise.co.uk)

5 – Encounters with employers and employees. This can include visiting speakers, mentoring and enterprise schemes. Ideally every year a student is in school.

Gatsby Benchmark 5 | CEC Resource Directory (careersandenterprise.co.uk)

6 – Experiences of the workplace should be given to every student through for example, work visits, work shadowing and/or work experience to help their exploration of career opportunities, and expand their networks. Experiences should be secured by all pupils by the end of Year 11 but also all students during Years 12 and 13.

A useful contact for virtual work experience may be Dig Data: https://digdata.online/live-online-career-challenges/

7 – Educational encounters both academic and vocational routes and learning. (Sixth Form Colleges, Apprenticeships level 3-8, Further Education Colleges, Independent Training Providers, and at least two visits to a University).

To meet the new Provider Access Legislation (PAL) requirements, students in year 8 and 9, and 10 and 11, should have two encounters with separate providers PAL encourages schools to give a range of information to all students.

Are you using the ASK programme? Have you had them in to talk to year 10s and 11s? Alternatively, are you looking for a speaker to champion volunteering? Let your Enterprise Coordinator know to help make introductions.
