We all have a role to play in tackling the climate emergency and it’s helpful if we all have a good understanding of the challenges we face and some examples of what we can do to make a difference.

Fortunately, the latest course on the Enterprise M3-backed Innovation South Virtual Campus (ISVC), Carbon Literacy and Climate Change, can help!

This five-hour course provides information about the cause and effects of climate change, how businesses and individuals can combat these issues and the world’s scramble to achieve Net Zero.

It gives an understanding of the different types of greenhouse gases and how these contribute to the rising temperatures of our planet. The course also covers the carbon footprints created by organisations and various products as well as explaining what “Climate Champion” means whilst providing examples.

Other green skills courses include Domestic Retrofit, Tree Planting and Climate Change, Introduction to Sustainable Resource Management and Water Conservation Technologies with more still to come.

The online platform is a collaboration between EM3 and further education and sixth form colleges from across Hampshire and Surrey, with £2.6 million funding from the Department for Education (DfE), as part of the Strategic Development Fund (SDF).

EM3 Skills Strategy Manager, Jamie Mackay said: “We are keen to support organisations to encourage their employees to consider green career opportunities through the ISVC, as part of our drive to develop a low carbon high growth economy.

“The virtual campus is a great opportunity for employers, especially those who want to work towards achieving Net Zero, to develop their employees with green skills while futureproofing their workforce.”

In addition to the growing suite of green courses, the platform also provides access to vital, work-focused training such as digital marketing, cyber security, and software programming.
