There is a shortage of skilled business-to-business salespeople which is threatening to hold back the UK economy.

It is a serious issue which has been highlighted by labour market intelligence and employers’ insights shared by the Enterprise M3 Skills Advisory Panel (SAP) indicating that more needs to be done to train and recruit people with strong B2B skills, particularly to find new global trading opportunities outside the European Union.

B2B sales occupations have consistently appeared in job posting data from the LEP area, showing constant demand from employers looking for talent to sell their products and services.

As a direct result of this information and SAP discussions, the EM3 funded Innovation South Virtual Campus (ISVC) has just added Transforming International Sales to its suite of free online courses available to businesses.

The course is funded by the Department for Education through its Strategic Development Fund and is a collaboration between Activate Learning and the Institute of Sales Professionals.

Topics include how to generate a sales pipeline, the importance of qualifying and quantifying opportunities, successfully completing the sales cycle to win business and expanding your business overseas.

Business across the EM3 area and beyond can access this course by signing up for a free account on the ISVC platform, giving them access to more than 20 courses including green and digital skills.

All of these courses have been designed with employers, in response to specific skills needs such Carbon Literacy and Climate Change, Digital Marketing, Cyber Security, Introduction to Sustainable Resource Management, Domestic Retrofit and Business Finance.

EM3 Skills Strategy Manager Jamie Mackay, said: “It’s great to see the Transforming International Sales course added to the ISVC platform. I believe it offers a fantastic opportunity for businesses, particularly those targeting international sales, to focus on expanding their employees’ sales skills.”
