Tim has been the Principal at Sparsholt College since 1998 having been Vice Principal, Head of Faculty and Course Tutor/Manager prior to that. He is a graduate Applied Biologist who worked with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food before training to teach in Further Education. Tim describes himself as an educator and technologist and, in addition to the many other roles of a College Principal, he has personally been spearheading the initiative at Sparsholt to broaden the curriculum into ‘Environmentally Sustainable Technology’.
Tim has recently finished (December 2015) his Chairmanship of Landex http://www.landex.org.uk but remains on the Board of Landex as one of the directors. Tim is the Vice-Chairman of the National Land-Based College and has also been a past Board member of the Association of Colleges (AOC). Tim is also a Member of the BIS/DFE convened ‘Joint EFA/SFA Advisory Forum’; a member of the Enterprise M3 LEP Global Competitiveness through People Board which focuses on skills within the M3 Area; a member of the Test Valley Partnership Board; Chairman of the Hampshire Principals Group; an Associate of the Royal Agricultural Societies.
In 2007 Sparsholt College took over a tertiary college in Andover, now renamed Andover College (a campus of Sparsholt College Hampshire). As College Principal Tim has ensured continued reinvestment in high quality teaching at Sparsholt College and Andover College.
Tim has overseen a number of successful QAA Reviews and Ofsted inspections during his time as Principal with the latest being the Ofsted Care Standards Inspection 2015 receiving a grade of ‘Outstanding’.
As College Principal Tim has ensured that the emphasis of the curriculum for students not only emphasises knowledge, but also develops study skills, analytical thinking and specific occupational skills for relevant employment sectors. Working with employers has always been an important part of the success of Sparsholt College and Andover College, and the strong recognition by the business community is fundamental to the College achieving its success. Tim describes that success as linked directly to progression to good employment opportunities, career advancement and for others, progression to Higher Education prior to taking up their full-time occupations.
