News round-up - during the last month, we:

  • Were awarded a further £29.9million of funding from the Government’s Local Growth Fund plus £42million in loans from the Public Works Loan Board. The funding will be used to support 14 infrastructure projects across the Enterprise M3 area. The Enterprise M3 Growth Deal, which is now worth £148million, will bring forward up to 4,000 new homes, create up to 7,000 new jobs, attract up to £410million new public and private sector investment into the area and improve transport links within and between key towns in Surrey and Hampshire.   • Hosted a visit from Penny Mordaunt, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Communities and Local Government. The Minister used the visit to formally announce Enterprise M3’s new Local Growth Fund funding and also to visit the site of Farnborough International Airshow, one of the projects which received funding in this tranche. 

  • Have started to promote our ESIF Programme Implementation Update on 5 March in Farnborough. This free event is for anyone who wants to find out what Enterprise M3 has been doing to develop its ESIF Programme Implementation Plans and what funding opportunities will soon be available, including priorities, forthcoming milestones and actions for each of the Funds.   • Have been pleased to confirm that the OJEU notice to secure a partner/consortium to manage and run the Enterprise M3 Growth Hub has been published. Closing date for tenders is 14.00 hrs on Monday 16 February 2015. 

  • Attended a joint transport meeting with four neighbouring LEPs to discuss how we can work together and lobby Government on cross-LEP transport issues. Mike D’Alton, Chair of our Transport Action Group met with his counterparts from Solent LEP, Coast to Capital, Thames Valley Berkshire and Oxfordshire LEP.

  • Responded to Network Rail’s Great Western Route Study. In our response, we fully support the inclusion of the Reading to Basingstoke spur within the plans for electrification of the Great Western Main Line. We are, however, disappointed that the Route Study makes no reference to the possible future provision of a new railway station at Chineham. Click here to view the full letter.

  • Continued to promote the third round of our Growing Enterprise Fund. There is £3 million of funding available for projects in the Enterprise M3 area. In this round of the Fund, the LEP is looking for projects that will help to deliver its Strategic Economic Plan for the area. The next closing date for expressions of interest is Friday, 6 February 2015, with additional dates throughout 2015 until the fund is allocated.   • The FSE Group is hosting an event about the Enterprise M3 Funding Escalator on 10 February in Guildford. The event is aimed at professional service providers, banks, consultants and other intermediaries who are interested in finding out more about the how companies can access the Funding Escalator which is dedicated to support the development and growth of ambitious SMEs in the Enterprise M3 geographical area.   • SETsquared is hosting a workshop on 5G, the next generation of mobile communications technology, on 5 February at the SETsquared Hub at the Innovation Centre, Basingstoke.  Enterprise M3 has identified 5G as an important niche sector for the area and is investing £5million of its Local Growth Fund funding in the development of the technology.
