Ambassador Academy celebrates Business Innovation in Surrey

Earlier this month, Mr Peter Martin, Deputy Leader of Surrey County Council, presented an Ambassador Academy Award for Innovation to Symbio’s CEO Martin Ward at the 4th Ambassador Academy.  The award was in recognition of Symbio’s work in Mycorrhizal Inoculants, one of the best new soil technologies, which have been developed in Wormley, Surrey.

Martin stated, “I was delighted to receive our Award at the Ambassador Academy.” He added, “It was an excellent event.  Quite unexpectedly, in the ‘speed dating’ networking session, there arose the possibility of new product development between ourselves and three companies, a new product that could provide an essential element to meet a market need.  We will be having a round table discussion to see if the idea has mileage, so may be looking at a new business venture!”

On the night, Ambassador Awards were also presented to BT, Ultra PRT, EuroTech and SimplyUnite.

Toby Hart of SimplyUnite received his award for building a high growth business that harnesses technology to enhance the quality of life for residents in care homes across the country. On the night, Toby thanked Connect 2 Innovation for their coaching for growth support which helped him to rapidly grow his business to a £1m turnover in just under 12months.  Toby also commented, “The Ambassador Academy event was rather good.  The speed networking technique was particularly successful and I look forward to hearing about the next one.”

Anne Crean, CEO of Connect 2 Innovation who organised the evening, commented, “In these times when business news seems to be all doom and gloom, it was fantastic that so many entrepreneurs, high growth businesses, big businesses, investors and Local Authorities attended the event to celebrate local business innovation and growth. My thanks go to Surrey County Council, Guildford and Woking Borough Councils who support us in our efforts to connect businesses to ideas, technology, markets and possible business deals and special thanks to Tony Greenwood and Professor Philip Beesley for kindly hosting the event at the Royal Holloway University London.

Other testimonials from the Evening

“This was the first Connect 2 Innovation event I have attended.  I was incredibly impressed by a number of factors including the organisation of the event and the quality of the other attendees. I have already made contact with people I met on the night and expect some lucrative business to follow.” CEO, Whitespace Waste Software

“A great evening combining genuinely fascinating and impressive mini-presentations, and a friendly mix of informal and structured networking.  We appreciated the opportunity to exhibit and will be taking that up again if we can.  We were debriefing this morning and realised we had made about 20 interesting and commercially solid connections, at least five of which have real needs for our services within the next few months.” MD, 3di
