Safety

Network Rail is grateful for the inclusion of essential rail workers in the government's definition of key workers because it enables us to contribute to the national efforts in keeping the country running.

Please rest assured that our people come first and we are committed to safe working environments for them.  We recognise our important role in supporting the economy and society through this incredibly challenging period. While you may see a lot of workers on site throughout the duration of the project, we have adopted all best practice measures on protective equipment, health advice and working practices.

In line with these changing times, we have implemented a freight and key worker strategy to ensure the safety of our workforce and to keep the railway running.  Our top priorities are as follows:

1)    Protecting our people through minimising contact, adapting our work practices and providing the best possible protection

2)    Increasing freight services to maintain essential supplies supporting the transport of medical supplies to hospitals, materials to power stations, goods to supermarkets and the removal of household waste from urban areas.

3)    Providing passenger services to support essential travel including for key workers
