The Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership celebrated the tremendous success of the Farnborough International Air Show and its huge positive impact on the local and national economy with businesses and public sector partners at a networking event on Friday as it prepares to invest in a new conference facility.
The LEP is planning to invest in a new international conference and events space along with Rushmoor Borough Council, Hampshire County Council and Barclays - in an innovative partnership between the public and private sector.
Greg Clark MP visited the show as the newly appointed Business Secretary and made a point of discussing the LEP’s plans for investment in Farnborough and the wider area.
He said: “This is my first day as newly appointed business secretary and it was absolutely fantastic to see the Enterprise M3 LEP bright and early.
“This local enterprise partnership is doing exactly what our country needs at the moment and working closely with local authorities and businesses to boost the economy and ensure the local area is equipped with the skills it needs for businesses to thrive and prosper.
“I was encouraged to hear about all the exciting projects which the LEP is delivering on the ground and its plans to invest alongside Hampshire County Council, Rushmoor Borough Council and Barclays in a new international conference centre in Farnborough.
“This partnership is a shining example of how to showcase an area to a global audience and secure investment and I’m sure it will be a fantastic asset for the area."
The LEP hosted the event at the show as part of its ‘Futures Day’ which is dedicated to inspiring and motivating young people in their study of science, technology, engineering and maths.
Geoff French, Chair of the Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “This has been a fantastic event and it has been wonderful to showcase the success of the air show and enable so many organisations to network and build links which I’m sure will be of huge benefit to the area and its economy.
“Today was also about highlighting the importance of skills in science, technology, engineering and maths - which is something the LEP is absolutely passionate about and thoroughly committed to.
“The LEP is planning to invest in a new international conference and events space along with our partners and I hope we can announce more details about this very soon."
