Project description

The Veterinary Health Innovation Engine (vHive) is an integral element of an animal health innovation cluster supported by dedicated resources to develop and adopt new digital technologies in animal health, creating new innovation & business opportunities both in the region and nationally. Enterprise M3 invested £0.2 million to support the development of the vHive workspace which is an exciting new initiative created with the important intent to serve as a technology and smart business hub that others will be able to join – as observers, as participants in projects, and as joint investors in the future of this pioneering centre. This innovation cluster aims to integrate data from partner organisations which can then make that data available in a controlled way to third party organisations who, by utilising that data, will themselves be able to develop new businesses, product and processes. The workspace will also facilitate development of new approaches to data capture, including through development of apps, remote sensing devices and ‘animal wearables’ which bring direct benefits to animals, their owners and their veterinary advisers as well as providing ‘big data’ to enhance knowledge at a population level. The Centre will be closely aligned with and where appropriate share resources with the University’s developing eHealth initiative, the 5G innovation centre and the Centre for the Digital Economy. The Centre will also be aligned to complementary activities in the Pirbright Institute, the APHA and to the partnership network of the School of Veterinary Medicine.
