EM3 is looking for a new chair to lead its Board - an outstanding leader who is committed to further strengthening the diversity of both its board and its organisation to ensure the LEP reflects its communities its serves and to ensure it delivers the future the region deserves. As the search begins, outgoing chair Dave Axam reflects on his three years' in office and the qualites his successor will need.

Are you a people person?  Then you could be our new Enterprise M3 Board chair.

The most essential quality for any EM3 Chair or Board member is a love of working with and for people.

The key motivation you need is the desire to make a genuine difference to the lives of people in our area by playing a key role in delivering change.

And in this case, the change is of a critical nature – developing, planning and implementing the interventions needed to ensure the future economic growth of our area and recovery from the economic challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Importantly driving forwards in a way which provides us with both a sustainable environment and a sustainable future focused economy. A daunting task perhaps but one that certainly brings its own reward.

There is a real pleasure in working with a broad range of people to develop the solutions to the challenges our region is facing. We know that we cannot do this alone and so we are a strongly focused partnership organisation with a collaborative approach built into our DNA  “the EM3 way”  and you’ll need to champion this with your leadership and approach.

It has been my privilege and honour to be the EM3 chair for the past three years. I have found it one of the most rewarding and satisfying experiences of my life. It has provided me with the opportunity to work with a diverse collection of leaders, across business, government, education and not-for-profit, many of whom I would never have otherwise met.

And the buzz in the room when our board members, with all their different experiences, knowledge, backgrounds and perspectives, working collaboratively to problem-solve for the benefit of our region is incredibly rewarding.  It has given me new friends, perspectives and connections which I will value for the rest of my life.

I am proud of EM3’s achievements to date; in our last financial year we invested £37m in projects to support our region’s economic recovery. And we laid the foundations, in our Economic Recovery Action Plan – Revive and Renew - which not only addresses the challenges of economic recovery, but highlights promising opportunities for the transformation and renewal of our region, delivering increased prosperity and an improved quality of life for the people who live and work in our area.

The Board itself has gone from strength to strength and now comprises a mix of high calibre leaders from all sectors who are passionate about a range of shared goals from supporting young people in acquiring the skills they need for the future, or fostering new business innovation and growth, to solving our transport and housing challenges while simultaneously delivering on our clean growth agenda.

We are now looking for a new chair to lead EM3; an outstanding leader who is committed to further strengthening the diversity of both our board and our organisation to ensure we always reflect the people we work for and to ensure we deliver the future our region deserves.

If you are a leader who is a clear strategic thinker with an enterprising, collaborative style and think this may be the challenge for you, please take a look through our dedicated recruitment site here and consider joining the EM3 team.
