Project description

Basingstoke College of Technology (BCoT) has successfully been awarded £160,000 toward a project to build an Electric Vehicle and Hybrid Training Centre, forming part of a scheme costing in excess of £400,000. This development will create a sustainable and scalable centre to meet future changes in electrification and automation within the automotive industry.

This exciting project focusses on one of our key sectors: Emerging Technology. It is the first of its kind within the further education sector in the region and is supported by the Institute of Motor Industry.

830 learners are expected to be supported across a 3-year period, providing training for apprentices which represents a unique offer in the area. The centre will offer awards in a range of specialisms such as Electric/Hybrid hazard management for emergency and recovery personnel to diagnosis, testing and repair as well as routine maintenance.

This project demonstrates a continuing commitment by EM3 to deliver funding to organisations which want to train local people in emerging technologies, providing an aspect of future-proofing to the workforce.
